Their brewing history took shape in 1805 under the Yodo Domain, and the modern brewery was formally established as Kitajima in 1950.

Located along the historic Tokaido Road near Lake Biwa, Kitajima carries more than four centuries of craftsmanship forward. Today, the brewery produces roughly 180,000 liters of sake each year, using premium sake rice from the fertile Omi Plains and natural spring water from the Suzuka mountains.
